Why a C-section scar may affect more than the incision
Restrictions in fascia, muscles, and nerves can influence how the body moves and feels.
C-section scars can restrict the natural movement of fascia, muscles, and nerves, creating a “straitjacket effect” that may limit overall function. Knox Physical Therapy notes that these restrictions can impede circulation and energy flow and may be associated with chronic post-surgical pain, back pain, shoulder pain, and neuropathic pain. In the cited OGN 2019 study, only 10% of chronic pain was localized at the scar site, while 80–90% was experienced farther from the C-section site; the study details also report chronic back pain in 40% of C-sections and shoulder-neck pain in 20%.
